Liechtenstein foundation
Liechtenstein foundation: set up through a licensed trust company
A Liechtenstein foundation must have a Liechtenstein trustee on its council, so it is set up and administered by a licensed Liechtenstein trust company. We prepare your brief and introduce you to one.
Key facts
- Governed by the Liechtenstein Persons and Companies Act (PGR).
- Minimum capital CHF, EUR or USD 30,000, fully paid in.
- Articles (Statuten) and usually by-laws (Beistatuten).
- Foundation council of at least two members; a member authorised to manage and represent must be a Liechtenstein trustee or equivalent.
- Private foundations are usually not entered in the register (a formation notice is filed instead); charitable and commercially active ones are registered.
- Tax: 12.5% income tax, or only the minimum tax (CHF 1,800 a year) with private asset structure (PVS) status.
International agencies quote set-up costs in the tens of thousands of euros; annual administration is charged by the trust company. We do not set up or administer Liechtenstein foundations ourselves: our role is to clarify your needs and introduce you to a licensed partner.

Frequently asked questions
Do you charge for the referral?
The first clarification is free. Any fee is agreed in writing before work starts; the foundation itself is set up and invoiced by the Liechtenstein trust company.
Swiss or Liechtenstein foundation?
Swiss family foundations are narrowly limited by law; Liechtenstein foundations are used for asset protection and estate planning. The right choice depends on your situation and tax residence.
